9-11 changed my life. I remember living in Guam and it was 11:00 PM on the 11th when I saw the horror--it was September 11th all over the world. I will never forget the terrifying pictures--the unbelievable images of those buildings crashing down. Little did I know it would change my life forever.
We had wanted to live in Guam for at least three more years (maybe longer) and I was about to take diving lessons in a few days. The diving lessons were cancelled. My husband was furloughed from Continental Airlines and we had to leave. But where?
We prayed about where God would lead us. We had heard about a missionary pilot job in Yap--that was an isolated island where woman didn't wear tops but were too embarrassed to show their knees. :-) (boobs = knees--HA!) My hubby would be transporting much needed medical supplies and food to the people. We were ready for anything. But then we found out that it would be a volunteer position and we would need $50K per year to survive with four children.
So, my husband got his old job back as a C-130 pilot in the Air Force. He would be sent to war. We were flying back to Arkansas where he would be stationed in Little Rock. I remember touching down in Hawaii, crying about where we would be going in a few days, hating to leave the islands, the beach, the ocean, my life that I loved. Little did I know God had other plans.
When we arrived in Hawaii, we met up with some of our very best friends. My hubby's friend said there was a job there in Hawaii that needed a pilot of his qualifications. Could it be? A job in Hawaii? It happened within several days--we called the moving company and had our stuff turn away from the mainland and toward Hawaii. My island life was not over. Praise God! He gave us Hawaii!
We weren't able to stay there for long--just 18 months, but it was such a wonderful experience that I'll never forget. God has taken us to Del Rio and now to California where my husband will stay in the AF to get his 20 years and retire to Continental. He has his old job back.
So, even though 9-11 affected my life, God turned it to good for us. I pray for the people that it affected all over the country. I pray that good came from the tragedy in their lives. I pray that good comes to our country and that we will never stray from clinging to God.
I pray that we will never forget about the price of the freedom.
